The Irish College of English International Youth English Summer School (IYSS) takes place every summer from June to August with English courses, sports activities and cultural trips for juniors, teenagers, adolescents, young learners and high school students from around the world. Run as a residential English language summer camp, it is a great opportunity for younger students/teenagers to improve their English and grow to love the language by living it.

The young teens stay with host families within easy reach of the schools and attend English classes in the mornings and participate in various afternoon activities. The course is designed to ensure students benefit in full from the programme and acquire a natural interest in improving their English in a lively and enjoyable environment. The Irish College of English can guarantee an exciting, fun and rewarding summer. Our children's & parents feedback is excellent and we continue to strive to make our English summer camps the highlight of the summer.

Student start dates are flexible and courses are based on 4 week stays, 2 & 3 weeks stays are also available.
The organization was flawless, the teachers dedicated and enthusiastic. The atmosphere at the schools is relaxed and stimulating and our students had the best of times... Summer Schools & Locations:

As recognised Language Schools About, we offer teenage students an exceptional learning experience in our modern, friendly school. Student host family accommodation is carefully selected and is usually within walking distance of the school. We offer our junior students the choice of two locations: Malahide or Swords.

Malahide, our main centre, is an award winning picturesque coastal town, 13km from Dublin City and 8km from Dublin International Airport. It has rich tourist resources such as a Marina, Castle, Beach and Village and is a very safe environment for young students.

Our new centre is in Swords, which is a growing town, neighboring Malahide. It boasts numerous amenities including a busy town-centre, a shopping centre, multiplex cinemas, castle etc. This offers our students a new and exciting location option.

International Youth Summer School Programme includes the following:

  • Airport transfers to and from Host Families
  • 15 hours tuition per week (Mon-Fri 9.30am-12.30 pm)
  • 1 Month Access to our E-Learning Online Portal.
  • Accommodation with a carefully selected Irish Family. (Most families are located in within walking distance of the Schools, or are a short bus journey, e.g. 10 minutes)

Tuition / Academic Focus:

For this teens summer English course, students are given a placement test on arrival and our academic staff will carefully place young students in an English class appropriate to their level. All English classes have a maximum of 15 students per class so students have an excellent opportunity to speak and to receive individual attention from their teacher. Our highly qualified teachers are specially chosen for their ability to relate to teenage children and all progress is carefully monitored. In addition, all our English Summer School Students are given 1 months access to our E-Learning Portal, and we encourage students to continue their study through this media after leaving the college. On finishing their summer English course, students are awarded a Certificate of Attainment, stating their level of English.

Youth Student Accommodation:

Students are placed in the Malahide / Swords or surrounding area and are within easy reach of the summer schools (normally walking distance). Full board is provided with an Irish Host Family. Breakfast, packed lunch and an evening meal are provided with emphasis on a balanced nutritious diet. Student welfare is our main concern and we choose our families very carefully to ensure maximum comfort. In addition, we have a Home Stay Charter in place which clearly sets out standards and our policies concerning all home stays. The student may be placed with other International Students thus developing new friendships with young people from all over the world.

Matteo had a great time in Ireland and came home really satisfied... he found your lessons interesting and your teachers professional. Mrs. Lorraine (his host family) was always very kind and her family was really great. Matteo keeps saying that he is looking forward to stay again with them next year. He liked the activities and enjoyed the guided tours in Dublin. I wish to recommend your school to any person who really wants to improve his English. (Parent Feedback)

Sports & Cultural Activities:

Our Youth Summer School Programme offers young teenagers and high school students the ideal balance of study and leisure. Cultural tours and excursions as well as discos/Irish dancing are an essential part of the programme. In addition students have the opportunity to play sports including football, tennis, par 3 golf, basketball and bowling among others. Click to download a sample Junior English Activity Programme.

Junior Student Welfare & Safety :

All the English Summer School Programme activities for juniors are carefully supervised by responsible and dedicated staff. Student welfare is our main concern and every effort is made to ensure an enjoyable and safe stay for everyone. We appoint an experienced Irish Leader, who will accompany the high school students/teens on all activities.

  • Both our centres are located in friendly, residential areas of Dublin. Malahide being one of Irelands most affluent towns, and considered an ideal place to live.
  • The Irish College of English offers a 24 hour emergency phone service for parents/students and host families.

Insurance:

We advise all our junior students to take out insurance prior to departure. All students traveling from EU countries should bring a European Health Insurance Card with them. Students are not insured by the English summer school, or by the host family, against illness, theft or loss of personal effects. The summer schools cannot accept responsibility in the event of such an occurrence. We therefore, recommend personal insurance cover.
