Irish College of English
The Irish College of English was Established in 1992 and has an excellent reputation as a Quality Education Provider. A positive student experience is at the forefront of our school’s ethos. In 2014, we were honoured by Malahide Chamber of Commerce with the ‘Service Excellence Award’ for a clear demonstration of excellent and consistent customer service and in 2016 we were honoured with the ‘Organisation of the Year’ Award.
In 2015 we were the first English language school in Ireland to be shortlisted for the ‘Junior Course Award’ by Study Travel Magazine. In 2016 and 2017 we were again shortlisted for the ‘Junior Course Award’ as well as the ‘English Language School Europe Award’ in 2017.
We were shortlisted again this year in the Study Travel Magazine Star Awards 2019.
- Junior Course For Under 18’s – We were the first school in Ireland to be ever shortlisted for this award category in 2015 and were again shortlisted in 2016, 2017, 2019.
- English Language School Europe – We were shortlisted in 2017 and again in 2019.
Our main school is located in Malahide, a beautiful coastal town in Dublin. We also run two fabulous Residential English Summer Camps, one in Glenstal Abbey, Limerick and one in Clongowes Wood College in Kildare.
Our Dublin branch is within easy reach of Dublin City Centre and is an ideal location for language stays. Uniquely all our Host Family Accommodation is within Walking Distance/Very Short Bus Journey of our School.
We are delighted to be in partnership with Glenstal Abbey and Clongowes Wood College, two of Ireland’s most prestigious residential boarding schools. Our International Residential Junior Summer Camps provide students with the opportunity to experience life on these historic campuses.
Glenstal Abbey offers students a unique mix of old world charm and state-of-the-art modern facilities. The campus includes a 19th century castle, which houses the dormitories, library and dining hall, and cutting edge modern additions for the classrooms and sports facilities.
Founded in 1814, Clongowes Wood College is one of Ireland’s most historic Residential Boarding Schools. Famous past pupils include James Joyce and many of Ireland’s most famous politicians and sports stars. Just 40 minutes from Dublin Airport and Dublin City Centre, the Campus is set in 250 beautiful acres. The Campus includes historical buildings and state-of-the-art modern facilities including brand new 25 metre swimming pool, modern sports hall and gymnasium, all-weather sports fields, tennis courts and golf course.
The Irish College of English is managed by Deirdre Rochford and Susan Mc Elhinney, whose approach is innovative and quality orientated. Other key staff members include: Loraine Grehan our School Ambassador, Jane O’Hagan our Academic Manager, Ian Mc Elhinney our Operations Manager. Junior and adult students benefit from our Ethos of Full Immersion within the language. Our Academic Approach is focused on building fluency and obtaining a Natural Love of the Language. We focus on progression and promote exams such as FCE, CAE and IELTS as pathways to International recognised competency certification for future study and career options.
At the Irish College of English our Teaching Staff are experienced professionals and all hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and a recognised TEFL qualification. Our premises are newly renovated and we constantly strive to improve our client experience. We are Recognised by ACELS, a Service of Quality and Qualification Ireland, for English Language Teaching (ELT). We are also members of the Quality Language Schools Promotion Body MEI and as such have learner protection in place.
