Academic Support

At ICE, we offer academic support to help students succeed in their language learning journey. These services cater to different learning styles, levels, and goals, and often focus on both language skills and broader academic or professional development.

We are committed to providing support services to assist students in achieving their language learning goals. This includes academic advising, tutoring, and additional support for students who have additional needs.

We promote active student engagement through interactive classroom activities, group projects, and extracurricular opportunities such as conversation class and cultural events.

ICE encourages open communication between students and teachers, seeking feedback on teaching effectiveness, course content, and overall learning experience to inform continuous improvement efforts.

The follows are examples of how ICE supports adult students academically:

Language Skills Development

  • Weekly free conversation classes provide regular practice sessions to improve fluency in speaking with other students and native speakers.
  • Weekly IELTS exam classes give students the opportunity to prepare for exams, and offers other students the chance to get an insight into the exam model.

Exam Preparation

  • Individualised IELTS or Cambridge exam preparation tuition to prepare students for upcoming standardised English proficiency exams is available as a learning support.
  • Mock exams which are part of our IELTS exam classes, provide students with the opportunity to sit real tests in exam conditions to help students assess their readiness and identify areas for improvement. For students taking other exams, our academic team can help them access mock exams.

Individualised Learning Support

  • Student learning goals and external planned exams are noted on the class register for teachers so they can assist students in these.
  • One-on-one tutoring is available which offers personalised instruction focused on the specific needs and goals of the student.
  • Academic support is available for individual academic consultations, providing guidance on language issues or academic goals.
  • Students receive monthly process reports which also have a simple system for students to contact our academic team if they need additional supports. In addition, teachers will support students on an ongoing basis and can flag to the academic team if students would benefit from additional support outside of the classroom.
  • The Academic Programmes Coordinator will ensure that the Student Welfare Officer and Assistant Student Welfare Officers are able to provide support and advice regarding higher and further education pathways, living in Ireland and practical help.

In addition, all student benefit from:

Feedback and Assessment

  • Continuous assessment through weekly, summative, and formative assessments and classroom activities to track student progress.
  • Teachers give students feedback continually and in addition, assessment grades are recorded and monthly progress reports sent to students.

Self-Study Resources

  • Teachers assist students access textbooks, workbooks, grammar guides, and other learning materials to support them.
  • Our small library is easily accessible and books can be borrowed in our honour system without any paperwork.
  • Students are introduced to online resources such as apps, websites, and interactive learning platforms e.g. English File online.
